RELATED CONDITIONS

This section contains information about conditions which often go hand in hand with depression or which can be confused with depression. They can also occur on their own without depression.

Sometimes it is difficult to diagnose these conditions as there may be overlap between depressive symptoms and symptoms of other conditions. It is also sometimes hard to differentiate between normal pregnancy or postnatal issues and symptoms of an illness. For example, difficulty with sleeping may due to discomfort in late pregnancy or a symptom of depression.

It is important to remember that a diagnosis is not intended to label someone in a negative sense but to help you and professionals plan treatment and offer suggestions to aid recovery. Like all mental disorders – these can range from mild to severe.
